Gary Boncich’s introduction to the scaffolding industry came long before his first job as a union carpenter. At just five years old, he was already sweeping warehouse floors.
Today, Gary serves as President and CEO of Resource, the company behind Scaffold Resource and Reach Services. In a recent appearance on The Brace Yourself Podcast, he joins hosts Ben Beaumont and Simon Boyes to discuss the journey between those early experiences and the leadership responsibilities he carries today.
The episode, “From Scaffolder to CEO ft. Gary Boncich,” offers a candid look at building a career, taking chances, and learning to lead the people who make a business work.
A Career Built on Hands-On Experience
Gary’s career began on the tools as a union carpenter, giving him firsthand experience with the demands of scaffolding work and the people responsible for getting it done.
During the conversation, he reflects on how that background shaped his perspective as he moved into business leadership. Understanding the work from the ground up brings a practical dimension to decisions about people, projects, and company growth.
For anyone building a career in scaffolding, his story offers a look at where that experience can lead—and the willingness to keep learning that comes with each new responsibility.
Taking Risks and Learning to Lead
Moving forward did not always mean choosing the comfortable option.
Gary discusses difficult career decisions, moments of self-doubt, and the risks that helped shape his path. He also explores what it means to lead from the front and why listening to your team matters.
These are lessons that extend across the scaffolding industry. As responsibilities grow, the ability to understand others’ perspectives and draw on their experience becomes increasingly important.
Contributing to the Industry’s Future
That willingness to share experience also connects with Gary’s recent appointment as Secretary of the Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA) Executive Committee.
His new role provides another opportunity to contribute to the industry through collaboration, education, and a shared commitment to safety.
